This page documents the design intent, typography choices, and construction of The Bridge — the digital home of the Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter.
This site is the digital home of The Bridge — the Woodbridge (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It exists to introduce the chapter to the community, document its work, support its members, and preserve its history. It is designed and maintained in-house by the chapter’s administration.
The Bridge is presented with editorial restraint: navy where seriousness is warranted, crimson where the fraternity’s color speaks, brass as accent, cream as ground. Typography leans on classical forms — Playfair Display for headings, Lora for prose, Inter for interface labels — because the chapter’s work is serious work, and dignified typography carries that weight.
The layout favors white space over ornamentation, structure over decoration. It is not designed to impress; it is designed to communicate.

The site is built as static HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript — no frameworks, no build system, no tracking code. It is hosted on Netlify and deployed by drag-and-drop, which keeps the workflow radically simple. Fonts are served from Google Fonts. Photographs are the chapter’s own; where images are decorative, they were created for this site.
Interactions are quiet by design: fade transitions rather than slide-ins, hover states that shift rather than shout, motion that reveals rather than performs. Every animation respects the visitor’s prefers-reduced-motion setting.
The site meets WCAG AA color contrast targets and honors reduced-motion preferences. Skip-to-content links, focus states, and semantic HTML are used throughout. Images are lazy-loaded and compressed. All pages carry canonical URLs, OpenGraph meta, and appear in the sitemap.
